How to Make your Home your Happy Place

The non-girly approach.

Fresh flowers are lovely but sometimes you need to cover the fundamentals first.

1 Food | A Well Stocked Fridge

It’s plain brain candy. Eating is one of the great sensual pleasures in life so coming home to an empty fridge after a long hard day, won’t be very comforting. Devote some to keep a well stocked fridge to stimulate the pleasure and reward centres in your brain the minute you get home.

2 Internet | A Fast Broadband Service

After electricity and running water, the internet has become the most important utility for most people in the western world.  Our downtime funnilly enough revolves around our laptops,so when you get home and ready to relax a poor internet service will be at the very least annoying.

3 Space | Room for your Hobbies

Even if you live in a studio apartment make sure you have enough space to enjoy your hobbies. I doesn’t have to be a hobby room or a fully equiped workshop. All it takes is a little creative thinking to repurpose a small part of your existing space into a hobby corner where you can turn off your phone and escape.

4 Spruceness | A Tidy Environment

An organized pile of personal clutter may be a part of your busy lifestyle I get it ( I don’t), but if you spend 15 minutes each day to tidy up, you will be gratefull when you get back home.  Make the bed as soon as you get up, rehung the clothes you wore, hung the towels in the bathroom, and clean as you go instead of dedicating a full weekend to it.
I hope you’ve found these tips helpfull and to hear from you soon!

How do you make your house into a home?

You are definitely in tune with me. I totally agree with you. I don’t have flowers and love having space to either dance around or do yoga… Nice post!

I love your essentials list because they are just that. A home is where we expect certain things to just be there.

That SO reflects the modern lifestyle. It is funny, but also quite disturbing, if you think about how addicted we are to it.

I live in a dorm and at first I found it difficult to make it feel like “home.” But then I started putting up framed art and placing picture frames around my room and now I love it! It amazing how the little things can make such a difference.

It totally makes a difference. House vs. home. My first apartment was not decorated but had all the things I needed. My next apartment, my sister came the week I moved in and helped me decorate it and it made coming home so much more enjoyable!
