With the modern speed of life and our endless devotion to busyness we often forget to pause, breathe and clear our heads. And even worse, we are ovewhelmed with unbearable guilt even at the very thought of taking some proper time off.
From one workaholic to another here is why hitting the pause button once a week (or as often as you need) is important and how to achieve bliss.
Resting Sharpens the mind.
Scientifically proven, proper resting replenishes the brain’s stores of attention and motivation, thus encouraging productivity and allowing us to focus on what’s really important and gain new perspective. You need to take care of yourself first in order to be able to give 100% and take care of everyone and everything else.
1.Grab a comforting cup of tea.
A soothing brew will set the mood and will help you take your mind off your everyday troubles.
Everything is better with a cuppa they say. And now there is scientific evidence to back that up.
Research from the University college of London shows that tea can actually reduce the harmful effects of stress. The research involved 75 young men who were regular tea drinkers.
All gave up normal tea, coffee and decaffeinated drinks for six weeks and drank one of two “tea” mixtures, four times a day instead.
One group had a tea-coloured drink which was caffeinated and fruit-flavoured, containing all the constituents of black tea. The other was a fake tea, identical in taste but with no tea properties.
The research was designed so that neither the drinkers nor the scientists knew what was taken during the exercise.
The result? Stress hormone levels fell by nearly twice as much in tea drinkers compared with those given a tea-like drink, after all had been put under stress.
2. The power of a good read.
Books or magazines, paper or virtual, read for pleasure and get truly inspired.
Both Orwell and Vogue can provide an escape from your everyday life,as long as you turn your phone off and allow yourself to immerse into whatever you prefer reading.
3 . A good album
Music has the power to soothe and appease.
Don’t overthink it. Whatever makes you feel good and boosts you mood! Clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions have proved that your energy is restored according to what you listen to.
It’s really about relaxing the nervous system. It works on a cellular level.
4. Pamper yourself
Indulge in a full body & face pampering session.
Turn of the phone and treat yourself to a nice diy face mask or take a long bath and moisturize your skin with a lovely beauty oil. My personal favourite is the NUXE huile Prodigieuse,it smells heavenly,it’s easy to apply and melts into your skin leaving it super plush and soft.Paint your nails, deep condition your hair, whatever feels good and relaxing.
